I would first like to thank all of those wonderful people I have met through
the years when I had a store front. You were great patrons of the store and even when we moved two hours many of you
continued to shop at J&M Hobbies. Unfortunately when I closed the store the customer data base was lost
so I apologize if I have not stayed in touch.
As you can see we are now focusing on puzzles. For those of you who knew
the store in years past this is a dramatic change. The store's main focus for decades was model railroading. After
adding puzzles to our initial inventory in 1999, puzzles have been the constant seller. With our original inventory
almost gone I have chosen to focus on puzzles with the goal of ever expanding. (much like we did with ever other line
we carried). I want to focus on creativity and if the puzzles are successful then bring back the great model selection
we once carried.
J&M Hobbies was started in 1953 by the original owner Joseph Glanville.
The name, J&M, is from Joe and his wife, Mary. His original and only shop was located at 109 Warren Avenue,
East Providence, RI. It was a small store front but Joe managed to pack in a wide array of hobby items. Joe was
masterful at repairing model trains of all gauges. Joe lived to the age of 87, working up to six months before his passing
on. The pictures above show the inside of J&M Hobbies.
In 1999 Roger Houle, and family, purchased J&M Hobbies and moved
the store to 180 Danielson Pike in Scituate, RI. While at this location the store was enlarged three times.
The store was readily visible through a variety of inflatables which were posted outside the main door.
In 2005 J&M Hobbies moved to Johnston, RI where additional retail space and parking
were available.
In 2007 J&M Hobbies moved to Cape Cod, at 4665 State Highway in the Town of Eastham.
Although many moves, the store was always on US Route 6.
Due to the poor economy on the Cape, we closed the store front in January of 2009.
We are currently focusing on online sales only and have opted to use Ebay as our medium. They have all the systems already
in place for inventory and payment and their recognition is world wide.
